About Us

In 1951, the Columbia Women’s Club felt Columbia, Illinois needed a public library. They gave up their normal meeting space in the room above City Hall and began furnishing it as a demonstration library. After a few attempts, the Columbia Library was established as a tax payer funded library on May 1, 1959.

Patron Stories

"The library has played a role on my life has allowed me to read books about anything. I have read a whole series I never have read if it weren't for the library. I love the library a lot!
Ella H.
“I have never really been able to read a lot. I have read more within the last year I believe than I've ever read in my life. Which is saying a lot, since I'm in my 60's. There is always something available to read at the library and I really appreciate how pleasant my experience has been with the Columbia Library. They are very pleasant and accommodating to my reading interests. Thanks for all you do!”
Ann J.
